About Me & About this Blog!

Hello, I am Laura Medina, I have been in the IT and Engineering field for over 20 years. I started out as an Information Technology Expert in the US Navy, fell in love with the technology of the field, and continued in the field as an overseas government contractor working in Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Honduras, the UK, Bahrain, and South Africa. I have been working with a large government contractor for 10 years and am currently working as an Engineering Team Lead on the GPSOCX contract. I am a PhD student working on a degree in Computer Science and Cyber Security.

I am currently enrolled at CTU and have just started a Futuring and Innovation class that led me to create this blog. I will be publishing in my blog as part of my assignments throughout the course. So far this class has been really exciting and thought provoking for me. It has challenged me to think back 10 to 15 years and discuss innovations that we thought were far fetched at the time but are now reality. It also has me studying current trends and future innovations. I am really enjoying this course and look forward to learning more about Futuring and Innovation in the near future.

I want to use this blog to discuss advancement and innovation in the computer science field. I also want it to help bring more focus to women in technology. During a recent internet image search about innovation and technology, I noticed that most of the images were of men, and I want to change that. I want to see women command a larger footprint in the industry. I already have some great ideas on how to make this happen and I am excited to see where this blog takes me!
